Feel More Secure with Nest Cams

Feel More Secure with Nest Cams

For those who think that having a 24/7 live streaming security camera is a little on the intrusive side, you might not be aware of their advantages.

Here are 8 features of the Nest Cam Outdoor and Nest Cam IQ Indoor that you will love:

1. Outdoor Cameras Deter Crime

Studies show that the simple presence of an outdoor camera is enough to stop burglars.

2. The Cameras are Easy to Set Up

It is easy to install both of these cameras. You plug them in and add them in the Nest app or online.

3. You Choose what Level of Alerts and Identification Algorithms you Get

You get a free 1-month trial of Nest Aware with your outdoor Nest camera. This helps you to choose what level of alerts and identification algorithms you want.

This subscription upgrade gives you access to better alerts and more advanced identification algorithms.

With Nest Aware, you can highlight areas in the camera’s field of vision to select activity zones. When you select specific activity zones like the front yard, you focus on areas of concern and reduce the amount of notifications.

It also allows you to see all the footage from the past ten days in the app’s timeline.

If you decide not to use Nest Aware, the camera only saves about three hours of footage, which doesn’t even cover a full work day. After three hours, you will still get alerts, but only still frames are saved.

4. The Footage you get is Clear and Easy to See

With a 130-degree wide angle, the cameras cover a lot of ground, and the 1080p HD resolution makes the footage clear and easy to see, even at night because the night vision is excellent. You can zoom in digitally as well.

The outdoor camera allows you to distinguish people from approximately 100 feet away, and the motion sensors are very sensitive.

5. The Nest IQ has Facial Recognition

Both the Nest Cam Outdoor and the Nest Cam IQ Indoor are good at spotting people, but the facial software of the Nest IQ can identify familiar faces pretty accurately.

It can alert you if your spouse or child is moving around the house. Be aware that moving your hands near your face can confuse it.

6. The Supersight Feature can Zoom in and Track on People

Supersight is a Nest Aware feature with the Nest IQ that can zoom in and track on people of interest with a 4K sensor and HDR that produce clear, bright images.

7. The Cameras have Two-Way Audio

You can yell at burglars or talk to the house sitter and give direction from out of town!

8. You can Manipulate Video Clips

You can create, save and download video clips with Nest Aware. If you are a working parent and you want to save clips of your kids, you can, just like you would if you were at home.

These features make the Nest Cam Outdoor and Nest Cam IQ Indoor something worth considering for your home.

Italy Coronavirus Updates Not Slowing Down as the Outbreak Continues to Wreak Havoc

Italy Coronavirus Updates Not Slowing Down as the Outbreak Continues to Wreak Havoc

Italy currently has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Europe as well as outside the epicenter, China. As a popular tourist destination with an already dense population, the coronavirus outbreak rapidly spread exponentially from two Chinese tourists who were confirmed to have the sickness. Underestimating the risk an outbreak posed, Italy soon became overwhelmed with the hundreds of thousand cases. Then, Italy closes all schools, cancels all public gatherings, and orders a nationwide lockdown to try to get the upper hand on containing the sickness.

Italy’s Nationwide Lockdown

The two initial cases in Italy were confirmed on January 30, but the outbreak didn’t occur until February 21 with 20 confirmed cases. Italy ordered school and university closures on March 4 and then a nationwide lockdown on March 10 to slow the spread, but nearly three weeks later, Italy had 59,138 cases with a total of 5,476 deaths with 800 of those deaths happening in a single day.

With this steep increase, soldiers were drafted to enforce the lockdown as hospitals in the most affected regions struggle to handle the thousands of cases. Operating close to a breaking point, inundated hospitals have had to send their most dire cases to hospitals in other regions as ICUs overflow. And despite working around the clock, there seems to be no end in sight for Italy coronavirus updates as the body count continues to rise.

Travel Bans to Italy

One day after confirming the first two cases of COVID-19, Italy temporarily ceased all air travel to and from China. Amidst the chaos of treating Italian cases of the coronavirus, international airlines announced their own travel bans to Italy. Travelers who do enter the country are subject to temperature screening at all main Italian airports and must self-isolate for 14 days. The government has also recently resorted to also banning domestic travel in an attempt to combat the spread.

The rapid spread of the coronavirus in Italy could be explained in part due to increased air travel with China. Italy signed a memorandum of understanding in early January in China to expand air connections to foster more tourism between the two countries with flights tripling this year. With Italy’s prosperous tourism industry, the country is a hot zone for an outbreak as well as a hub for the thousands of travelers who quickly spread the sickness around the world.

Italy’s Prognosis for the COVID-19 Outbreak

With 60 million people in Italy under full lockdown and hospitals working non-stop to identify and treat coronavirus cases, there is hope to flatten the curve. However, the growing number of confirmed cases around the world poses a risk of another wave of the coronavirus. Even though the original source of COVID-19 in the Hubei province is slowly lifting its restrictions, countries like Italy and the US show the unpreparedness governments have to combat a pandemic.

It seems that without strict regimes put in place, defeating the coronavirus pandemic will take much longer furthering its impact on society and the economy.

Watch for these 2020 Food Trends

Watch for these 2020 Food Trends

You never know what food will end up trending, but some of the 2020 food trends seem to focus on a more virtuous lifestyle, like drinking less and eating plant-based food.

And it is not just about food. It’s also about how food is being consumed. We’re giving it our best guess, and here are 2020 food trends to watch out for!

Check out these food trends for 2020:

1. Low-Alcohol Drinks

Studies have shown that 66% of millennials are making efforts to lower their alcohol consumption. They are committed to wellness pursuits like yoga, meditation and fitness, and support a $4.2 trillion global wellness market.

Companies know this, and offer alcohol-free beverages that still feel grown up and fancy, thanks to their pretty packaging.

2. Pea Protein

Pea protein is another result of the trend towards healthier and guilt free plant-based eating. This protein can replace whey and collagen, that are based on animal sources, when making smoothies. It is also expected to be used for meat alternatives and vegan cheeses.

3. Gnocchi

Not just the good old-fashioned gnocchi. Thanks to Trader Joe’s, there are now sauce-filled gnocchi with fancy flavors like kale and chocolate. When Trader Joe’s drops a new product, people eat it up, and there are sure to be copy cat products from other food producers.

4. Diversity in Fast Food Breakfasts

Major fast food chains are all diversifying their breakfast options. Some examples are Burger King’s Breakfast Croissan’wich, with an Impossible Foods plant-based sausage patty, and a chicken version of McDonald’s McGriddle that will be offered in more locations.

5. Intermittent Fasting

This is an ongoing trend. There are always trendy diets happening, like keto diets, but this way of eating is not controversial.

There is nothing wrong with limiting eating hours throughout the day. In addition, research is proving that intermittent fasting has benefits that include stress resistance and a decrease in the chances of cancer and obesity.

6. Flexitarianism

Flexitarians follow a mostly plant-based diet but will eat meat and animal by-products every once in a while. It is much easier to say that one word, flexitarian, than it is to explain it, or to have to defend vegetarianism or veganism.

These are the people who drive Meatless Mondays and fast food that features meat-free alternatives.

7. Cutting Down on Single-Use Plastic

The trend of banning bags, then straws, began in California and was adopted by the rest of the country. If history is any indication, then the San Francisco International Airport ban of single-use plastic water bottles will soon be adopted.

It is expected that companies will not use single-use plastic in their packaging in the first place. Banned or not, people are looking to cut down on single-use plastic.

8. Ghost Kitchens

This is an idea whose time has come. Ghost Kitchen restaurants are, in essence, large commercial kitchens. There are no places for people to sit down and dine in. Going out to eat at a restaurant is out – getting delivery or pick-up is in.

Happy eating!

Better Fitness for the Average Person

When you’re not used to abiding by a continual fitness routine, and perhaps haven’t even been to the gym in years, it can be very difficult to know where to begin. While there are plenty of motivating factors – such as feeling better day-to-day, gaining better health, weight loss, and feeling more confident – there are certainly a few factors that we can all think about that make starting out an exercise routine difficult as well.

Finding the Right Environment for You

The necessity to pay in advance for a long-term contract might work out if you could be certain that the gym you’re joining is going to make a good fit for you, but the need to join in advance can present a problem.

One of the most daunting things that keeps new members from joining a gym is the apprehension that comes with entering an environment full of seasoned fitness experts. When you’re an average person that wants to join a gym because you are not happy with your current physique, the last thing you want is a facility that makes you feel like you don’t belong.

The Problem with Long Term Contracts

The greatest obstacle with most gyms for people just starting out is the fact that they often require that you sign up for a lengthy and expensive long term membership in order to even gain access. Once you have entered such a contract, it can be very difficult to cancel your membership and find another gym.

The bottom line is that you need all of the encouragement you can get to get started at a gym and the necessity to sign a long-term contract isn’t going to provide you with that encouragement.

The Benefit of a Pay-As-You-Go Option

With a pay-as-you-go option, you don’t need to worry about not having access to any of the services or amenities that you would normally find at any other gym. For example, if you’d like to try a fitness boot camp with access to the top professional trainers, then you can find all of these services at a pay-as-you-go gym.

The only real difference is that you won’t have to pay for any time that you don’t use and you won’t be locked into a long-term contract.

Trying Out New Gyms is Easy

When you’re not tied down to any commitment outlined in a contract, then you gain the ability to go try a new location any time you feel like it. Even if you’re currently involved in a group fitness class, you can easily try a new pay-as-you-go facility and continue with the exact same program under the guidance of a new trainer.

The best new option for beginner fitness is to exercise at a pay-as-you-go facility where you can enjoy all of the same amenities as a regular gym without having to worry about the expenses of time you won’t use. Get in touch with a fitness company that offers pay-as-you-go options today to learn more about what is available in your area.

National Women’s Soccer League Signs Media Deal with Twitch and CBS

National Women’s Soccer League Signs Media Deal with Twitch and CBS

Twitch won’t just be an e-sports livestreaming platform anymore; it’s expanding to traditional, in person sports through a deal with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). In addition to the league’s deal with CBS Sports, the league also signed a three-year deal with Amazon’s Twitch that gave the platform the rights to stream their games. These deals mark the first time the NWSL games will be viewable for such a large audience and hope to foster more awareness for women’s soccer. For Amazon, this is just another extension into the sports world with Twitch being the largest esports streaming sites. The deal with NWSL joins other sports leagues partnered with Twitch, which already streams the NBA’s official minor league as well as the National Women’s Hockey League games.

NWSL Games Available Across Multiple Platforms

24 select games from the 2020 NWSL regular season will be available for free on Twitch. All of the other games will be on CBS, CBS Sports Network, and CBS All Access. All 108 regular season games, the playoffs, and the championship games will be made available to the world on Twitch as the NWSL’s exclusive international partner outside the US. Known for its interactivity, Twitch and NWSL plan to create original programs as well as league and player-focused content.

The NWSL landed these deals through the international sports agency Octagon with which the league signed a media rights and marketing strategy partnership in October, which provided the league a secure revenue stream for three years. This was after the NWSL ended its media partnership with A&E Network and was without a secure outlet for broadcasting their games in 2019. The league then made a deal with ESPN during the season, which provided them with international coverage.

Women’s Professional Soccer Grows in Popularity

The NWSL hopes to take advantage of their new partnerships with CBS and Twitch to reach more viewers as more people forego traditional cable television for online streaming. Lisa Baird, the commissioner of the NWSL, said in a press release, “these partnerships will continue to amplify the NWSL and its teams on a national and international stage,” after expressing the team’s excitement with working with the two broadcasters to showcase women’s professional sports.

After the last FIFA World Cup, the NWSL has seen a surge in popularity and its new media deals also raised more interest for the women’s league. Using Twitch as a broadcaster for the first time will make the league accessible to its young audience base with 71% of its users being millennials. The platform will allow the NWSL with new opportunities to experiment and create content to continue to grow their audience and supporters. As one of the pioneers in sports livestreaming, successful viewership may initiate other leagues to follow in the NWSL’s footsteps away from traditional networks and towards a mixed-media strategy.

The NWSL season will begin on April 18 with a match between OL Reign and Washington Spirit. And now this year viewers can easily find and watch the games online a little easier than years before.

Tips for Staying Healthy and Avoiding Viruses Like Coronavirus

Tips for Staying Healthy and Avoiding Viruses Like Coronavirus

Coronavirus has taught us that the world is small and we are all connected. We have seen that illness can spread very quickly, and we need to know how to avoid Coronavirus.

It is up to all of us to look after our health, not just for ourselves, but for everyone else.

Here are tips for staying healthy and tips on how to avoid Coronavirus and other viruses:

1. Get Vaccinated

The CDC suggests getting vaccinated against seasonal flu. Vaccinations don’t guarantee total immunity, but the symptom severity can be reduced, lowering the risk of hospitalizations and even deaths.

Hopefully a vaccine will be created soon for Coronavirus.

2. Keep the Air as Clean as Possible

Viruses cause common colds and flu, which are respiratory infections. The viruses replicate in the mucus membranes, and when we cough or sneeze, they spread through the air in tiny droplets of mucus.

That is why you should stay at home when sick and sneeze or cough into your elbow.

Avoid cigarette smoke. It is a risk factor for diseases like cancer, asthma, and respiratory infections, even if only second-hand.

3. Disinfect Surfaces

Viruses can live on surfaces like metal, plastic, fabrics, paper and glass. How long they remain infectious depends on different factors like temperature and humidity, but it is best to assume that viruses are living and need to be disinfected.

Use products that contain alcohol or bleach, especially on frequently used places and objects like countertops, desks and keyboards. Make sure you disinfect properly by reading labels and following the instructions.

4. Practice Good Hygiene

Avoid touching your face, because viruses can enter the respiratory tract through the eyes, nose or mouth.

Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water. It is simple but effective, and can result in a 16-21 percent decrease in respiratory illnesses like colds and flu.

Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water isn’t available.

5. Exercise

Exercise meaning regular physical activity. It can improve immune function, decreasing the risk of respiratory infection.

In addition, it improves general health and wellbeing and reduces the risk of stress and anxiety, high blood pressure and heart disease, among other things.

6. Social Distancing

All of these tips will help you stay healthy against viruses. Coronavirus is a virus as well, but with the coronavirus specifically, the best way to stay healthy is to avoid any large events or mass gatherings.

If someone is sick or has symptoms, avoid close contact – meaning about 6 feet away. This is particularly important if you are at higher risk of serious illness from a chronic medical condition.

Anyone with chronic medical conditions should check with their doctor to see how to protect themselves further for their particular condition.

7. Meat and Animals

The World Health Organization recommends avoiding eating raw or undercooked meat or animal organs. If you have been to live markets where there have been Coronavirus cases, avoid contact with live animals and any surfaces they may have touched.

4 Interesting Ways Concrete Is Used in Homes

4 Interesting Ways Concrete Is Used in Homes

As the most consumed substance in the world after water and the most popular construction material on this planet, concrete has a variety of applications. Commercially, it’s found in drainage systems, sidewalks, roads, runways, bridges, buildings and skyscrapers because of its cost-effectiveness, strength, and ease of use.

Likewise, concrete has a variety of residential applications. Aside from being cheap, strong, and accessible, concrete is an excellent barrier against the heat and the cold, making it a good residential construction material for safety and energy cost purposes. It’s also more versatile than you think, with utilitarian and creative uses at home.

#1 Driveways

Many homeowners prefer driveways made of concrete rather than other materials. Concrete driveways can last anywhere from twenty to over thirty years with periodic maintenance and regular care. Because of this longevity, concrete driveways are more cost-effective than asphalt driveways, even though concrete driveways can cost more to install.

To take care of your concrete driveway, clean it regularly with a gentle detergent and a soft brush. Have an experienced contractor perform maintenance otherwise small cracks will grow larger and deeper. Also, apply a sealant to shield it from staining, corrosion, and damage. Sealants stop the tiny pores in the concrete from absorbing water, salts, and other pollutants.

#2 Decorative Concrete

Many homeowners mistakenly assume that concrete only has practical applications, when concrete can also be stylish. For example, decorative concrete is the art of mixing concrete with other materials to produce a finish that has the best of both worlds. Not only is decorative concrete as attractive as more expensive construction materials, but it has the strength and durability of regular concrete. What’s more, it’s more cost-effective than more traditionally luxurious materials.

That’s why many concrete contractors have expanded their services to include decorative concrete in their portfolio. You can visit Eliteconcrete.ca to learn about such a company that has served its community with its team of contractors for around twenty years, and has earned multiple accolades for its architectural finishes.

  • Limestone Finish combines the sleek and stylish look of authentic limestone with the endurance of concrete through the process of mixing and finishing concrete. Not only does this look gorgeous but it’s almost maintenance-free.
  • Stamped Concrete uses a sophisticated mixing and finishing technique to give homeowners the classic look of slate or flagstone at a fraction of the cost. The best thing about this finish is that it can be customized to suit any setting.

#3 Accent Walls

One of the easiest ways for homeowners to spice up their living rooms is to add an accent wall. And instead of going for wood, brick, or stone, many homeowners are opting for concrete for an old-school look. Concrete accent walls are easier to install than some other materials and can just as easily be taken down if you change your mind.

#4 Decorative Pieces

Homeowners who aren’t ready to make a large investment but still have the concrete bug use concrete for decorative pieces such as planters, shelves, coffee tables, ashtrays and more. If they’re looking to renovate their kitchen – then they can try a concrete countertop.

There are many interesting ways concrete is used at home. Because of its many great characteristics, the possibilities are endless.

Dealership Live Chat Brings Better Conversations and More

When you install live chat capabilities on your dealership website, you’re changing the entire way that your website functions. The ability to talk one-on-one with customers will provide your website with the ability to bring the talents of your sales team to bear on online customers – vastly increasing your ability to close deals and earn higher profits.

To take advantage of this capability, all you need to do is contact a software development specialist that works specifically on sales and marketing applications for auto dealerships.

While they were able to advertise some deals, the dealership website held little potential to retain and capture web traffic.

Adding a live chat option changes everything. New customers are now able to engage a live operator with questions about the vehicles that interest them.

Building Better Leads

They can also provide information to the dealership regarding their tastes and finances in order to allow your team to make better assessments of which vehicles will suit each particular customer. Using the information gather in live chat, your dealership can easily drive more leads though your site in order to increase your end sales dramatically.

Let Your Sales Team Take the Lead

Live chat operators engage people browsing online in order to build better leads and create new customers. As the process develops, your in-house sales team can join in the conversation in order to bring their marketing skills to bear online and better direct that customer towards a satisfying purchase. Providing your sales staff with the ability to work online also allows them to offer personalized upgrade offers and on-the-minute deals catered to that particular customer.

Share Video and Photos

An online messaging service isn’t just about creating great conversations that attract new customers, it’s about bringing everything that you have to offer to the digital forum in order to create a website that is every bit as powerful a sales resource as your physical dealership location. That’s why live chat also allows your sales team to share photo and video right in the conversation.

When you install a live chat service on your dealership website, you aren’t just offering a new service –

you’ll be taking your website to a whole new level. Offering a better online experience can help generate better leads and even lead to online auto sales.

Your capabilities all depend on whether or not you get in touch with a company that offers advanced solutions for dealerships online. Talk to a specialist today.

Experience Paradise When You Travel to Atlantis Bahamas

Between a relaxing, enjoyable vacation or a vacation to explore somewhere new, many families usually opt for the former rather than the latter. Time away from the busy work and school life might just as well be spent taking it slow somewhere sunny, on a beach, sipping a cool sip without having to worry about e-mails, homework, or any other responsibilities.

Whether you’re planning a multigenerational family vacation or a vacation just for yours, you can enjoy a waterpark that spans over 140 acres surrounded by 6 towers of different types of accommodations that offer restaurants, a casino, a marina habitat, and much more when you travel to Atlantis Bahamas.

Atlantis Bahamas

The resort emerged from the idea to develop the most engaging and extraordinary resort in the world. Inspired by the mythical lost city of Atlantis, the goal was to create one of the largest open-aired marine environments that housed hundreds of thousands of sea creatures from 200 different species as well as a waterslide unparallel to any other, six swimming areas and a marine habitat that cost $15 million to build between 1994-1998. The resort brought the economy back from its decline and provided jobs on the island.

The Different Accommodations at Atlantis Bahamas

Atlantis Bahamas is essentially six different resorts within the resort. Each accommodation fits many different budget and vacation types, but all have access to the same attractions. The towers of Atlantis Bahamas are:

The Beach Tower

Located furthest from the main attractions, this resort is the oldest and most inexpensive of the six and reflects its cost. That being said, if you just need a place to rest your head after a day of fun, it’s the most affordable choice.

The Coral Tower

An upgrade from and next to The Beach Tower, The Coral Tower has recently been renovated and offers a budget-friendly family stay.

The Royal Tower

The main tower that Atlantis Bahamas is associated with is the most popular one busy with crowds, the casino, shopping, and most of the other main attractions of the resort. It houses one of the world’s most expensive hotel suites, the “Bridge Suite” but the other rooms cost over $200 USD per night.

The Reef Tower

As the newest tower addition to the resort, it offers condominium-styled suites and is located away from the busy areas offering a more relaxing experience. It’s the most popular tower for families and has its own beach and pool.

The Cove

Opened at the same time as The Reef Tower, The Cove has 600-suites and is more expensive than the other towers. It’s not family friendly and has its own pool accessible only to guests staying there.

The Harborside Resort

On the marina, Harborside is a colorful, village-like resort with four-story, colorful villas. It’s most lively in the evenings in the resort’s center where guests can eat and shop.

Things to Note

With all of its marvels and services, Atlantis Bahamas isn’t all-inclusive and guests must pay for their own food through a meal plan or by cash.

Air Conditioner Maintenance Tips for the Spring

After a long winter, it’s hard to imagine that we’re finally headed toward summer. Only another month or so, and we’ll be complaining about how hot it is!

If you’re like most people, you love the summer weather but also like to escape it with cool, refreshing air conditioning once in a while. To be able to enjoy the heat but retreat indoors with nice cool air is one of the best things about the summer season.

Did you know that it’s highly recommended to give your air conditioning unit a thorough check-up at least once a year? The spring is the best season to do it because it’s just before summer hits so you can get everything prepared just in time. You’ll likely have your AC on most of the time in summer, so you want to get it ready for action.

You’ll definitely want an expert cooling technician to diagnose your AC problems in the spring, but you can also take a look to see if there any issues beforehand. Let’s take a look at what to look for when maintaining your air conditioner.

Clean or Change the Air Filters

Routinely changing or cleaning the air filters in your AC unit will improve its overall efficiency and lifespan. It’s suggested that filters be replaced every month, so be sure to consult your installation and maintenance contractors to find out the exact type you use if you’re unsure.

If you keep the AC on round-the-clock, your filter will require more attention than if you just turn it on every so often. You can clean it with a good vacuum cleaner (take it out of the unit first) and submerge it in water for a few minutes. Always wait until it’s completely dry before putting it back into place.

Filters are subject to a great amount of dust, dirt, pet dander, and other harmful particles. It’s crucial to keep them clean because otherwise, all of those particles will start to float around your home with the cool air that comes from the unit.

Clean the Coils

Your air conditioner’s condenser and evaporator coils collect dirt and dust and over time. All of that dirt will reduce the airflow and insulates the coil, which reduces its ability to absorb heat.

Outdoor condenser coils also become very clogged up and dirty and if the outdoor environment is dusty or if there is foliage close by.

The best solution to this problem is for you to take a look at the coils, assess the situation, and then let your contractor know about it. They’ll be able to clean the air conditioner’s coils if necessary, at your annual maintenance visit.

Clean Any Debris from the Unit

Over time, things such as dirt, leaves, and grass clippings will start to build-up on the outside of your AC unit, and this decreases the system’s capacity and reduces its airflow. Walk around it and trim any plants or shrubs that might be hindering its performance.

The first AC maintenance visit marks the beginning of spring and summer — finally, you can say goodbye to winter!
